Seeking SOFT Geometries

Geometry is a branch of mathematics concerned with points, lines, surfaces, and shapes in two and three dimensions. Softness allows for a plasticity or vulnerability to change. Moving away from sharp edges and fixed boundaries, the photographs in Seeking Soft Geometries, document instances of vernacular, malleable, and organic shapes. These collection of photographs includes four nested collections: Round Things (round, circle shapes); Not Exactly Roundish Things (not as round); Texture Dictionary (macro photographs of surfaces); and Green Diagrams (lichen, moss, and other organisms that form compelling soft geometries).

All photographs were taken by Kameelah Janan Rasheed using one of the following tools: capture signals (screenshots), a disposable camera, a Ricoh camera, iPhone, or Canon 5D camera.
